G'day all, Tim Borella here.
I've just joined the group (Aug 2011), having read about the 2011 Anthology in the Tablelander (the local rag up here in Yungaburra) a little while ago and submitted a short story for consideration. From what little contact I've had so far, Tropical Writers looks to be a vibrant, supportive and worthwhile organisation, and I'm looking forward to being part of it.
Both my wife Geraldine and I have the writing bug and have been submitting manuscripts here and there over the past few years - no great success as yet, but we'll keep at it. I've had a young adult sci fi novel of 80 000 words or so looked at by Random House on the strength of a pitch and excerpt, but was knocked back. I'll rework it and try elsewhere. I also have a few short stories 'out there' for consideration at the moment, and a few ideas I'd like to get hammered into shape over the next little while. Finding Tropical Writers is an extra motivation boost; great to see in our local area.
We probably won't be able to make it to too many get-togethers due to being up the hill here and having school-age kids to sort out, but will be keen to get involved in what ways we can.
Cheers and happy writing,
Tim

Hi Tim!
Looking forward to seeing you post some work on the forum, maybe the first chapter of your YA?

Hi Tim, and welcome. We have quite a few members from the Tableland area. Some we see at every meeting and others keep in touch via this forum. I hope you will manage to come down and meet us all at the Writers on the Waterfront lunch at Caio Italia on 3rd September and/or come to the next meeting on October 1 at La Porchetta. In the meantime I'm sure there is plenty to keep you busy on this forum, which has links to many writers sites, our past newsletters and a host of opportunities. Cheers Carol Libke - TW President

Thanks very much, Talitha and Carol. I've been exploring the forum a bit this afternoon, reading some of the stories and so on - it's great to connect with other like-minded people this way.
I posted a story, 'The Nothing', in the 'Share your Short Stories' section as a representation of the kind of thing I like to read and write, and would welcome criticism/comments. This is a great website and I love the idea of sharing work this way.
Cheers and thanks again,
Tim

Hi Tim, it would be great if you could make it to the Writers on the Waterfront event on Saturday 3rd September at Ciao Italia (Donnini's) . We have guest author David Hill coming to talk about his latest book The Gold Rush. Bookings direct with Ciao Italia two course meal $20 three course meal $25 and you don't have to be a writer to be there. Once I'm back on my own computer I'll send you the online invitation which you are welcome to pass out to family and friends.

Thanks a lot, Diane - sounds great. I hope Geraldine and I can get there, or at least to some meetings in the next few months.
Nanna and Granddad should be back from a 'Northern Safari'- style trip by then so we should be able to sort out a sleepover for the kids and have a night in Cairns ourselves with any luck.
